Two people found dead at scene of Riverside fire

Firefighters who responded to a house fire near the Riverside Casino found the bodies of two people inside.

The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. Saturday at a home on Vine Avenue, between Hills and Highway 22. The Washington County Communications Center says that when firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the structure. According to a post on the Riverside Fire Department Facebook page, first responders received a report of two subjects trapped inside the house. One victim was removed from a first-floor bedroom shortly after firefighters arrived. A second was found under a collapsed area in the basement. The bodies of the two victims were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.

Riverside firefighters were joined by fire crews from Kalona, Hills, Lone Tree, and Ainsworth.
The investigation is ongoing.
