Hopes appear to be dwindling for reopening a longtime Iowa City restaurant and live music club.
Iowa City developer Mark Moen has applied for a demolition permit for the building that housed The Mill on East Burlington Street. The Mill’s last owners, Dan Ouverson and Marty Christensen, shut the venue down in May of 2020 in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The next month they issued a statement saying they were stepping away from the business permanently.
A notice on the door says The Mill is set for demolition, although the permit has yet to be approved by the city. Once that happens, the building can be torn down.
Moen has not indicated what plans he has for the property.
The Mill opened in 1962, and the building dates back to 1922.
