Cedar Rapids man accused of firing handgun during robbery

A Cedar Rapids man was charged with robbery Sunday after he allegedly entered a home with a loaded handgun, demanding marijuana.

The Gazette reports that 20-year-old DeWayne Hunt went to a residence in the 1600 block of 8th Av SE New Year’s Day with a loaded Glock handgun. He demanded marijuana from the two residents.  During a struggle, Hunt allegedly fired a shot before being subdued by the victims. They held Hunt for police.

Hunt was charged with first degree Robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. He could be sentenced to up to 35 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
