A Chicago-area man with a history of domestic abuse convictions was arrested on a warrant alleging the same behavior in early 2021.

According to the criminal complaint, 33-year-old Jamarie Washington of Elgin, Illinois was in a bedroom with the woman and the three children they shared around noon on January 4th of last year when an argument ensued.  Washington got up to let the children out of the room; the woman also got up and stood behind Washington. After the children were out, Washington reportedly struck the woman in the eye, breaking the skin. He allegedly refused to let her leave the residence or call medical personnel for assistance.

The woman took photos of the injury to show police.

In March, the woman went back to police to complain about Washington’s continued harassment, despite there being a no-contact order in place. He allegedly sent multiple texts and called her multiple times, using spoof numbers if she didn’t answer. He also reportedly left angry messages, one stating that he would kill her, and didn’t care who it was in front of. The woman also accused Washington of showing up at her residence repeatedly, making her fear that he would carry out the threat. While police were speaking with the woman, repeated texts and calls allegedly kept being received from Washington.

In May, the woman told police that Washington sent messages showing he was on his way to her residence, including an Uber screen shot showing where he was.

A warrant was requested, and Washington was arrested New Year’s Day. He’s been charged with two violations of a no-contact order, 1st degree Harassment, and Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense. He could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on all counts.

A check of court records showed that Washington has six prior Domestic Abuse convictions in the state of Illinois.
