A Coralville man wanted on a warrant after allegedly eluding officers last month has been arrested.
Police say 20-year-old Anthony Allen of 5th Street was stopped for a simple traffic violation by Iowa City police near the intersection of Muscatine and 3rd the evening of November 24th. As an officer approached the vehicle, Allen allegedly fled in his vehicle.
The officer reported that although he couldn’t confirm Allen’s speed, he estimated it to be about 55 miles per hour as he drove on 3rd Avenue. Security footage and relatives of Allen were able to confirm his identity, and a check of his driving record showed his status as barred and suspended.
A warrant was issued for Allen’s arrest on December 15th; he was arrested Thursday and charged with Eluding and Driving while Barred. If convicted on both counts, Allen could be sentenced to up to 4 years in prison.
