Coralville Police have arrested a motorist for drunk driving after she allegedly crashed into another vehicle after leaving the road.
Officers were called to the accident scene on the 400 block of southbound 1st Avenue just after 6:30 Tuesday night. According to arrest records, first responders immediately noticed one of the drivers, 38-year-old Melissa Dykstra of 9th Avenue, was severely impaired. The investigation showed Dykstra’s 2017 Toyota Corolla jumped the curb, drove on the sidewalk, then hit another vehicle.
Police say Dykstra showed signs of intoxication. She allegedly could only complete one sobriety test before officers cancelled the other tests for what they say was her own safety due to her level of impairment.
Breath tests reportedly showed her blood alcohol content at over three times the legal limit for driving. Dykstra was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
