Officials with the Clear Creek Amana school district have announced a bond referendum for early next year.

Supporters delivered 494 signatures of registered voters who support putting a $65,000,000 bond referendum up to a public vote. That meets the requirement of 25% of all voters who cast ballots in the last election.

This week the Clear Creek Amana school board approved a special election for March 1st. If the referendum is approved, the money generated would help alleviate capacity issues.

Voter approval would allow the district to construct an elementary school in Coralville, as well as build additions to the district’s middle and high school facilities. That includes fine arts space at the middle school and the high School; career and technical vocational space at the high school and related site improvements at the middle school and high school, and new playground spaces and improvements to existing playgrounds at the elementary schools.

District officials stress the total tax levy rate would not be increased for the aforementioned projects.

Clear Creek Amana is the fourth-fastest growing school district in Iowa according to data released by the Iowa Department of Education earlier this month.

In Iowa, school bond referendums require 60% supermajority approval for passage.
