A Chicagoland man has been arrested after allegedly hitting his intimate partner and damaging property.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 2:50 am at an apartment on the 2600 block of Bartelt Road. 35-year-old Raphael Neely II of Lockport Illinois and the woman have been in an intimate relationship for about a year and a half. The two were in an argument that escalated to Neely allegedly striking the woman in the face, causing bleeding and bruising to her lip.

Neely then reportedly broke two kitchen chairs and used a pair of scissors to stab holes in a couch. When officers spoke with him, he allegedly admitted to the argument but repeatedly denied that it got physical.  Neely was placed under arrest, at which point he reportedly then admitted the argument was physical, but accused the woman of assaulting him.  Police found no evidence on Neely’s person corroborating his statement.

A check of court records showed that Neely has four prior Illinois convictions for domestic assault. He’s been charged with 3rd or subsequent domestic abuse assault, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
