Cedar Rapids man accused of trashing former North Liberty residence now charged with Assault

A Cedar Rapids man arrested Monday for allegedly trashing a North Liberty residence he was evicted from got himself arrested again after an incident the next day on the Iowa City Ped Mall.

Monday’s incident reportedly occurred on the 600 block of Hodge Street. 39-year-old Nicholas Swee of Staub Court North east was accused of forcing entry into the residence around 12:30 pm and causing $5000 in damage. He allegedly made admissions to intentionally damaging a sliding glass door and window, and using a cane to damage the side of the residence.

Swee was arrested on 2nd degree Criminal Mischief charges, and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Then on Tuesday, Swee was reportedly on the Ped Mall around 3 pm, where officers responded to reports of him shouting at people. Upon arrival, Swee was allegedly stumbling in the area and appeared highly intoxicated. He reportedly ignored commands to stop walking away, and when told he was under arrest he resisted and had to be taken by force into custody.

Swee also reportedly spit at officers and told one that he was going to slit his throat.

He now faces an additional charge of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, a serious misdemeanor.
