Police say a Coralville woman lied on forms needed to purchase a firearm, then gave the gun to a known domestic abuser.

31-year-old Jasmine Horton of Boston Way was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5:15 Saturday night.  Coralville Police say Horton purchased a Canik 9mm handgun at Scheels in the Coral Ridge Mall on May 11th, then gave it to another subject who is ineligible to possess a firearm due to previous domestic abuse convictions.

When filling out the required forms, Horton allegedly indicated that she was not a user of illegal drugs. Police say an investigation showed Horton has a history of marijuana and methamphetamine use.  They also say Horton knew the man was a domestic abuser, and even witnessed at least one of the incidents in-person.

A search warrant executed on Horton’s car on June 10th allegedly turned up meth, which she told police she thought was MDMA.

Horton is charged with Transferring a Firearm to an Unauthorized Person, Fraudulent Purchase of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
