An Iowa City woman faces charges that she stole over $1,000 in property from a Coralville apartment to get back at the occupant for allegedly stealing her wallet.

26-year-old Evelyn Rivera of Westminster Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 12:30 Saturday morning. Coralville Police say Rivera is seen on security video making entry into a locked apartment at the Iowa Lodge on the Coralville Strip just after 11pm Friday, then leaving with items taken from the residence. Rivera later told police she was upset because the victim had stolen her wallet.

An estimated $1,000 in property taken from the apartment was found in a vehicle in which Rivera was a passenger. Rivera allegedly admitted to placing the property in the car. Police say she was given a criminal trespass warning for the Iowa Lodge property in October.

Rivera is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary 3rd Degree Theft, and Trespassing. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
