The Iowa City Fire Department has released details on Friday morning’s fire at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

According to an ICFD news release, crews were called to a possible building fire in Boyd Tower just after 11am. The first unit arrived within four minutes of being dispatched as areas of the UIHC were evacuated.

Crews found a pile of burning leaves in the third floor penthouse. The leaves had accumulated next to a generator exhaust stack and ignited. The fire was extinguished quickly with no damage to the building.

Smoke was found in the first and second floor hallways of Boyd Tower. UIHC personnel assisted in ventilating the hallways using the building’s HVAC system.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported. The fire department was on-scene for about one hour. The Coralville and North Liberty fire departments and Johnson County Ambulance Service also responded.
