A Mount Pleasant woman and an area transient are being held in the Johnson County Jail after being charged with selling narcotics in the area.

32-year-old Adriana Ruiz De Chavez exchanged about 7 grams of methamphetamine during a controlled purchase for cash on September 22nd of this year. According to police, the woman is involved in the sale of narcotics with a co-conspirator in the Coralville and Iowa City area.

Ruiz De Chavez was arrested Sunday on a warrant issued December 7th and faces a Class B controlled substance felony, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She faces over 26 years in prison if convicted.

Police also arrested an area transient reportedly involved in the case. 54-year-old Ken Greene was observed meeting with Ruiz De Chavez following the controlled purchase in question. Greene was arrested on an unrelated warrant and was found in possession of the serialized currency used to make the controlled purchase. He also allegedly was in possession of packaging material and a digital scale. Investigators recovered messages indicating that Greene was sourcing Ruiz De Chavez with the meth, including prior to the controlled purchase.

A warrant for Greene’s arrest was also issued December 7th and he was picked up and booked into the Johnson County Jail early Tuesday. He faces charges of a Class B controlled substance felony and possession of a controlled substance; Greene faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
