The state’s major grocery chain has sent a disaster recovery team loaded with supplies to victims of the Kentucky tornados this past weekend.
On Monday, Hy-Vee sent a team of employees from the Distribution Center in Chariton, carrying over 300,000 bottles of water and over 220,000 snack bars and breakfast items to help victims. KCRG TV reports the team will partner with local emergency operations and nonprofit groups to assist in the recovery efforts.
And Willie Ray Fairley, who became a local hero in Cedar Rapids by giving out thousands of free meals from his WIllie Ray’s Q Shack food truck, is sending a crew to Kentucky to do the same thing. A Facebook post says Fairley is working out the details but will get down there as soon as possible.
Those that want to donate to Fairley’s trip can VENMO to @willieraysqshack Willie Fairley, or stop by his restaurant on Blairs Ferry Road. He said he should be there until about 6pm Tuesday.
