Iowa City firefighters respond to early Friday morning house fire

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to an early Friday morning house fire.

Crews were called to 1111 Saint Clement St. at 12:39 a.m. Friday. The first unit arrived on the scene less than three minutes after being dispatched. Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke upon arrival. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen of the residence and brought under control within ten minutes of arrival.

One civilian was transported to an area hospital by the Johnson County Ambulance Service. No firefighter injuries were reported.

Damage to the residence is estimated at $15,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office.
