An Iowa City man has been arrested and faces charges relating to the alleged destruction of a woman’s belongings.

Police say a no contact order is in place between 33-year-old Samuel Lockett of Nevada Avenue and the woman. Monday just before 12:30 am, Lockett entered the woman’s residence while she was away. While waiting for the woman to return, Lockett allegedly destroyed most of her belongings and food. The woman returned to the scene, and Lockett reportedly demanded the keys to her vehicle and left the scene.

The woman told police that she is very afraid for her life because of Lockett’s previous violent behavior towards her. He had no right to be in her residence.

A warrant was requested for Lockett’s arrest, and he was taken into custody around 2:30 am Tuesday. Lockett faces charges of 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, 2nd degree Burglary, and violation of the no contact order. If convicted, the man faces up to fifteen years in prison.

An additional no-contact order was requested between the parties.
