An Iowa City man was arrested early Sunday morning after being involved in a fight on the Ped Mall.

Officers were on foot in the 100 block of College Street just before 2am when they observed 28-year-old Benjamin Lewis and another man fighting. The two allegedly shoved each other, punched each other, then went to the ground and began wrestling and actively punching each other.

Multiple officers told Lewis to stop fighting, but reportedly continued to fight. One of the two stepped on an officer’s foot and caused the officer to go to the ground. She suffered a small cut and bruising to her left hand.

Lewis allegedly smelled strongly of ingested alcohol, had impaired balance, and bloodshot watery eyes. A post arrest PBT showed his blood-alcohol level at .110 percent.

Lewis was taken into custody and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Interference with Official Acts causing Injury, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
