Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies say a Cedar Rapids man was so intoxicated he began arguing with a car seat in their police cruiser after a traffic stop.

Arrest records indicate officers had arrested 22-year-old Dayton Johnson of Burlington just after 2:15 Sunday morning for Operating While Intoxicated.  Johnson’s 2009 Buick Lacrosse had allegedly been speeding on northbound Interstate 380 near the Swisher exit.

A passenger in Johnson’s vehicle, 19-year-old Daveion Houston of 66th Avenue SW, allegedly refused to stay inside the car, despite deputies and his friends telling him otherwise. Houston allegedly had difficulty standing on his own, smelled of ingested alcohol and provided a breath alcohol content of .198%. He was placed in handcuffs and put in the back seat of the police car, at which point investigators say he began having a conversation with and arguing with the car seat next to him, believing it was another officer.

Houston’s post-arrest breath alcohol level was measured at .247%. He’s charged with Public Intoxication.
