An armed Chicago man has been arrested on weapons charges after a hit-and-run accident in Iowa City.

Iowa City Police were called to McDonald’s on Riverside Drive just after 1:30 Saturday morning for a 2017 GMC Arcadia with Illinois plates that had hit another vehicle and fled the scene. The SUV was stopped by a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy near the intersection of Sunset Street and Ashley Drive a short time later. The driver, 49-year-old Roberto Miranda of Chicago, allegedly showed signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, and registered a breath alcohol content of .181%. He allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused all other testing.

A Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver was found in Miranda’s possession. He was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Possession of a Weapon While Intoxicated. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
