CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank is offering free suicide prevention training classes the next two weekends.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, or ASIST, is an internationally-acclaimed two-day training program, giving trainees the hands-on skills to intervene and help individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. The program is designed to be of benefit to people with varied backgrounds, including first responders, teachers, school administrators, social workers, counselors, clergy, business managers, and parents.
Anyone 16 and older can attend. The course will be offered from 9-5:30 Saturday and Sunday this weekend and the weekend of the 13th. Instruction will take place at the University of Iowa School of Social Work in North Hall.
