An Iowa City teen accused of stabbing another person this past June has had two of three charges dismissed, with a new date set for his trial.

Iowa City police say two people were fighting with each other at the Quarters on Highway Six East the evening of June 12th when 17-year-old Lazaro Bwayo allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed one of the subjects in the abdomen. The victim was rushed to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for immediate surgery,  due to the potential life-threatening severity of his injuries.

Surveillance video recorded the incident, and Bwayo was arrested on August 11th. He faced Going Armed with Intent and Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon charges, but Judge Lars Anderson granted the motion to dismiss those counts on October 7th. Bwayo still faces a charge of Willful Injury causing Serious Injury, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison term of up to ten years if convicted.

A new Case Management Conference date of February 22nd has been set; trial by jury is scheduled to begin March 29th.
