An Iowa City woman who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation was taken into custody on warrants from an alleged burglary and assault earlier in the month.

Police say the initial incident occurred on October 4th around 9:30pm at the Town and Campus Apartments. The victim reported that two females broke into her apartment and assaulted her and her uncle. The victim complained of pain and redness on her arm, and the uncle reportedly was punched in the face and had swelling around his left eye. The door suffered damage and it was estimated it would cost $350 to replace and install a new one.

18-year-old Rachel Livio Kabedi of Lower West Branch Road is accused of being one of the assailants. She reportedly left her purse behind , and police found a paystub with her name on it along with a baggie of marijuana. The victim described Livio Kabedi’s clothing, which matched what she was wearing on surveillance video of the incident. She was shown a picture from Livio Kabedi’s social media account and confirmed that she was the one who assaulted her.

During their follow-up investigation, witnesses reportedly admitted to being with and seeing Livio Kabedi prior to the assault, and her mother confirmed that Livio Kabedi owned a purse matching the one left at the scene of the crime. The woman’s mother also confirmed the image from social media that was shown to the victim was her daughter.

A warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest, and she remained at large until Thursday night after 9:30 when she was found in a vehicle stopped for a simple traffic violation. She reportedly gave police a false name, but Livio Kabedi was positively identified by another officer.

Livio Kabedi faces a number of charges. They include 1st degree Burglary, 4th degree Criminal mischief, two counts of Assault causing Bodily Injury, Marijuana possession, and providing False ID information. If convicted on all counts, Livio Kabedi could be sentenced to a prison term of over 29 years.
