A Coralville man has been arrested after an August search warrant led to charges being filed against him.

Officers with the Iowa City Police Department executed the search warrant on the 2nd Street apartment of 26-year-old Tyree Watson the afternoon of August 20th.  As officers were announcing and entering the apartment, Watson was reportedly throwing a safe out the living room window.

Watson was detained, and the safe was recovered; inside, officers allegedly found drugs and a Ruger pistol.  Watson is a convicted felon out of Illinois, and the weapon was later found to have been stolen out of Iowa City.

Officers continued their search warrant in the residence, and found nearly a pound of marijuana, some of it vacuum sealed. Watson’s phone was also searched, and he had messages from ten different people indicating that he was selling marijuana between June and August.

Watson faces a litany of charges when booked at the Johnson County Jail Tuesday. They include a Controlled Substance violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon, Keeping Premises for Controlled Substances, Obstructing Prosecution or Defense, and 1st offense Controlled Substance Possession. If convicted on all counts, Watson could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
