A suspect in an Iowa City home invasion now faces new charges after he allegedly assaulted staffers at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
30-year-old transient Brandon Blake was arrested just after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly illegally entered an apartment on the 400 block of South Johnson Street. Iowa City Police say Blake kicked open the locked door…breaking the door frame…then armed himself with a kitchen knife and ordered two women and two toddlers inside to be quiet.
Blake allegedly resisted officers and spit in one’s face while he was being arrested. He was charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations.
Blake was then taken to the UIHC. While he was being treated for injuries, Blake allegedly hit a nurse twice and spit in his face. Police say Blake bit a security guard on the hand while he was being restrained on the ground, breaking the skin. The nurse suffered a bruise on his back.
Blake now faces an additional charge of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Injury. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 28 years in prison.
