A man with felony convictions out of Illinois has been arrested by Iowa City Police after they say he brought a gun into a downtown bar.
27-year-old Jahme Taylor came to the attention of police just after midnight Sunday after he was seen walking out of Joe’s Place on Iowa Avenue holding an open container of beer. Investigators say Taylor gave them false identity information, including several different states of residence. He eventually gave his real name and date of birth, and it was determined that he currently resides in Columbia, Missouri.
Police say Taylor resisted arrest and had to be taken to the ground. The entire time, he reportedly kept clutching a brown bag. Once Taylor was subdued, police say they found a .22 caliber pistol inside the bag. Taylor is banned from possessing such a weapon after a felony battery conviction out of Illinois.
Taylor is charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, Interference with Official Acts with a Dangerous Weapon, Providing False Identity Information and Open Container of Alcohol in Public. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
