Weekend  shooting on SW side of Cedar Rapids results in fatality

Cedar Rapids Police now say the weekend shooting on the southwest side of the city resulted in a homicide.

Officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of 21st Avenue Southwest at 11:30 pm Saturday after a caller reported hearing numerous gunshots and seeing a subject on the ground.

Arriving police found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He has been identified as 40-year-old Jose Landin. The scene was secured and witnesses were interviewed. Based on the preliminary investigation, Landin was in a parking lot with acquaintances when a vehicle with occupants arrived. A short time later, gunfire was heard. The circumstances that led up to the shooting are still being investigated.

There have been no arrests and police are treating the homicide as a targeted incident.
