A Swisher man was taken into custody Saturday night on suspicion of boating while intoxicated.
According to police, a DNR officer observed 40-year-old William Shanahan operating a vessel without a stern light after sunset, at approximately 8:15 pm. He was taken to shore and met by another officer, who conducted a sobriety test.
Shanahan reportedly had very slurred speech and slow deliberate movements. After showing indications of impairment on field testing, he blew a .148 percent blood-alcohol content on a PBT and .147 percent on a Datamaster.
Shanahan was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
