Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say was hurling chairs from a downtown Iowa City bar into the street while asking people to assault him.

Officers were flagged down by staff at The Summit around 11:45 Thursday night for a patron refusing to leave. The suspect, 19-year-old Brady Dauber of The Quarters on Highway 6 East, walked away when officers arrived. Dauber was stopped by police, who say he showed signs of intoxication.

Summit staff claimed to see Dauber throwing chairs from The Airliner into the street earlier in the night, and said he’d been asking people to punch him in the face. They said they contacted police because they were worried Dauber would hurt someone.

Officers caught up with Dauber back in front of the Airliner, where they asked him to find a ride home. Police say he was “unable or unwilling to assist in his own rescue”, and Dauber was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Dauber allegedly told police he was drunk, “but not driving”. Online records show he was arrested of Operating While Intoxicated earlier this month.
