An Iowa City felon wanted on warrants for participating in a riot and for a July shooting incident has been arrested.
Police say 21-year-old Marquel Poole of Stanwyck Court was part of an assault on two individuals at the Capitol Street parking ramp on June 5th. The two were reportedly assaulted by 5-6 individuals, Poole being among them. A recording of the altercation clearly shows Poole as part of the riot.
Authorities have also connected Poole with a shooting incident on July 18th. A release from the ICPD Wednesday afternoon detailed that incident, during which multiple gunshots were reported at approximately 4:10am in the 500 block of South Scott Boulevard. Over 50 shell casings, indicating multiple weapons were fired, were found. Police also found damage to vehicles and buildings in the area, but no injuries were reported.
KCJJ reported earlier this week that two search warrants were executed at residences associated with Poole on July 27th. During the search, officers reportedly located and seized several firearms. Evidence allegedly showed that Poole had a Smith and Wesson handgun on the night of the riot, and a Springfield pistol at a June 27th shooting incident. Police say that Poole also had marijuana and drug paraphernalia at his residence
Poole was not allowed to possess firearms due to a weapons conviction in March.
He was taken into custody just before midnight Monday and faces charges of Participating in a Riot, two counts of Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Poole could be sentenced to over 13 years in prison.
Poole was released on $5000 bond Wednesday and will be arraigned at a later date.
