Iowa representative Christina Bohannon has announced her plans to run for US Congress in 2022.

The University of Iowa law professor, who’s been representing Iowa City in the State House since 2020, posted an announcement on Twitter Tuesday morning.

Bohannon said, “Today I am announcing my campaign for Congress in #IA02! I’m running to fight for better health care, better education, and better economic opportunity for Iowans because everyone deserves a fair shot. In 2020 the Democrat only lost by six votes, so I know we can flip this seat. Together we can win — let’s get to work!”

Bohannon referenced the razor-thin victory of current 2nd District Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who defeated Democrat Rita Hart for the seat in the 2020 election.

Bohannon has been with the University of Iowa since 2000. The Daily Iowan reports that she was president of the Faculty Senate from 2014 to 2015, and was a vocal opponent of the Board of Regents’ appointment of former UI President Bruce Harreld.
