An Iowa City man wanted on a Driving While Barred warrant was taken into custody after police allegedly found him with meth.
Police say 55-year-old Raymond Cox, who lists his address currently as Santa Clara Street in Oskaloosa, was stopped for failure to stop when turning right at a red light at Park Road and Anderson Street Monday at 2am. Cox reportedly identified himself and officers discovered his driving status was revoked.
A K9 alerted to drugs in the vehicle, and a probable cause search reportedly turned up a satchel at Cox’s feet that contained a clear crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine, a meth pipe, and needles.
Cox was wanted on a Driving while Barred warrant after he was allegedly seen leaving a known drug house near Hickory Heights Lane and Scott Boulevard on May 28th. His driving status at that time was barred through August 18th.
Cox was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and the warrant for Driving While Barred. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over four years in prison.
