A Coralville woman wanted on failure to appear for arraignment on a domestic assault and child endangerment charge was taken into custody by Iowa City police Thursday night.

Police say they responded to a call in the area of the Hampton Inn on Sturgis Corner just before Midnight referencing a subject that had warrants. The reporting party described the suspect, 26-year-old Tessa Kindred of 2nd Street, and advised that she was walking towards the lobby of the Inn.

Arriving officers reportedly saw Kindred and approached in squad cars. The arrest report says that she took off running, trying to get to her vehicle, but was cut off by officers. She then reportedly ran the other way, and was given orders to stop.

Kindred allegedly kept running and had to be grabbed to be stopped. An officer grabbed her arm, but she tried to pull away from the officer while screaming “no.” Kindred was then handcuffed without incident.

She was taken into custody and charged with Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. A case management conference was reset for Monday morning in Johnson County Court. The original charges carry a jail sentence of up to three years if convicted.
