A Coralville man wanted on several warrants was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a Hills shed.
Police say the incident occurred around 1:15 pm on the 400 block of Brady Street. 47-year-old Kory Vedepo of Holiday Road was called in for a report of him breaking into a shed on the property. While en route, the deputy was informed that Vedepo had several warrants, and was taken into custody.
A post-arrest search resulted in allegedly finding a one-hitter pipe and pen that was taken apart in his pockets. After being placed into the squad car, a search of the area where Vedepo was sitting reportedly found a clear plastic box with marijuana in a plastic baggie located inside. The box also allegedly contained a small metal tin with over five grams of methamphetamine. Vedepo also reportedly had in his possession a small plastic container with individual baggies inside and a small scale.
One of the warrants for Vedepo involved his failure to return to Hope House. He signed out at 5:37 am July 8th for a construction job and never returned at his expected 7:30 pm time.
For Monday’s incident, Vedepo was charged with a Class B Controlled Substance violation, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on the new charges, Vedepo could be sentenced to over 26 years in prison if convicted.
Voluntary Absence or Escape from Custody is a serious misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail if convicted.
