Johnson County Public Health is now recommending that people wear masks in public indoor settings regardless of COVID 19 vaccination status after levels of community transmission were upgraded.

In a release Thursday, it was announced that Johnson County is currently listed at substantial community transmission on the Center for Disease Control’s COVID data tracker, with all surrounding counties experiencing high levels of community transmission. Current data shows only seven of Iowa’s 99 counties experiencing low or moderate transmission, while Johnson is among just 9 counties in the substantial range. The rest are in the high category.

After COVID 19 cases in Johnson County at low levels for several weeks, the cases have recently increased. Therefore, the county is recommending that residents become more vigilant in protecting against the virus by frequent hand washing, social distancing, and wearing a mask.

They also remind people to get tested for COVID 19 if they experience any of the symptoms associated with it, including fever or chills, cough, breathing issues, fatigue, body aches, headache, a new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
