A new report shows Iowa as the largest-percentage user of renewable energy, and the top five come from the middle of the country.
The Gazette cited the American Clean Power Association report that was released Monday, showing about 57.6 percent of electricity generated in the state coming from renewable sources.
The others in the top five are Kansas, followed by Oklahoma, South Dakota and North Dakota. Iowa is the only state with over 50 percent of its electricity coming from renewable sources.
The report also says that the renewable energy sector in Iowa employs over 5200 workers and has received over $21 billion in investments.
Iowa added the fourth-most megawatts of clean power capacity in 2020, behind Texas, California and Florida.
Our neighbor to the east, Illinois, gets about 9.9 percent of its energy from renewable sources; Wisconsin only uses 3.1 percent.
