A North Liberty man was taken into custody after an argument escalated to him chasing his wife down a hallway with a knife.

Police say the incident occurred Monday just before 11am at the couple’s Holiday Lodge Road residence. 47-year-old Jose Checo Cabral and his wife reportedly got into an argument.  He then allegedly chased the woman down the hall of their home with a large knife, waving it like he was attempting to stab her.

The wife was made in fear of her life, and escaped into a bedroom before Checo Cabral could get to her.

He was taken into custody and charged with second offense Assault and Domestic Assault with the use of a weapon. If convicted on both counts, Checo Cabal could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
