The University of Iowa is encouraging returning students and employees to get vaccinated before returning to campus.

The school issued its first COVID-19 update in almost two months earlier this week ahead of off-campus students moving into new apartments starting today. The release notes that students can still get fully vaccinated before the start of classes on August 23rd. Free vaccinations are available to UI students through Student Health at 319-335-8394. UI employees can set up an appointment by emailing employee-health@uiowa.edu or calling 319-356-3631, Option 3. The web site vaccines.gov also has information on how to receive vaccinations.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently encouraged vaccinated individuals to wear masks indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission, the UI notes guidelines implemented by the Board of Regents prohibit its public universities from requiring masks or vaccination on campus. Those who wish to wear masks are still encouraged to do so, and the UI notes Johnson County is in a low-transmission, highly-vaccinated area. Those who are not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to continue wearing a mask and physically distance on campus.

Masks continue to be required in health care settings and where required by state or federal guidelines, including passengers on CAMBUS.

The UI reports zero COVID-19 cases among students and only one among UI employees since July 21st. No resident hall students are currently in self-isolation or quarantine.
