Iowa City man arrested after allegedly assaulting woman in vehicle

An Iowa City man was taken into custody earlier this week after allegedly assaulting a woman while their were together in a vehicle, then chasing the woman several blocks after she fled.

Police say the incident occurred around 8:20 pm on Tuesday. 28-year-old Lutha Wallace of Gilbert Court and the woman were riding together in a vehicle when an argument ensued. Wallace is accused of grabbing a phone and keys from the woman, breaking several of her nails in the process. He then allegedly struck her in the head twice.

The victim exited the vehicle and ran away from Wallace, who reportedly chased her several blocks. The woman fell while running, causing an abrasion to her leg. She told officers she had a headache due to the blows Wallace allegedly delivered. She also expressed fear of additional physical harm.

The two parties reside together and are in an intimate relationship.

Wallace was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor. The woman also requested a no-contact order. Wallace could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted on the charge.
