An Iowa City woman was taken into custody on two warrants Sunday.

Police say 22-year-old Janavia Hammons of Muscatine Avenue was wanted on a criminal mischief charge from an incident at a nearby convenience store she used to work at.

On June 3rd, officers responded to the Kum and Go on Muscatine Avenue on reports of criminal mischief. Staff identified Hammons as the suspect as she was once an employee there. She allegedly wrecked the displays around the cash register and threw items all over the store. Officers watched the surveillance video of the incident to verify Hamnmons’ identity.

Authorities had a booking photo of Hammons in her Kum & Go shirt with her name tag.

The woman was also wanted for failure to appear for a case management conference on June 28th regarding an OWI incident this past January.

Hammons was taken into custody Sunday afternoon and charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief for the June incident. If convicted on that charge, coupled with the OWI charge, Hammons could be sentenced to a maximum of 13 months in jail.
