An Iowa City man was reportedly over four times the legal limit to drive when arrested for his third OWI Sunday evening.
Police say 39-year-old Aaron Johnson of Iowa Avenue was observed at 6:20 pm after being called in as an intoxicated driver. He reportedly was inside a convenience store to purchase alcohol and was refused. Johnson got back into his vehicle and drove away.
Upon contact, he was allegedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of ingested alcohol. After showing measurable impairment on field testing, he submitted to a PBT, showing a blood-alcohol level of .334 percent. Johnson refused a subsequent Datamaster test.
A check of his driving records discovered a 2017 OWI in Lauderdale County Tennessee and a 2018 OWI conviction in Johnson County. Johnson was charged with his third offense, which is a class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
