A Coralville man was charged with his first OWI early Tuesday after allegedly speeding through a work zone at 30 miles over the speed limit.

According to police, 35-year-old Waddah Moghram of South Ridge Drive was headed southbound on I380 just before 2:20 am and was called in as reckless, driving all over the roadway. A deputy followed Moghram through the construction zone and observed him going 85 miles an hour in the 55-mile-per-hour zone. He also allegedly got out of his lane multiple times, nearly hitting concrete barricades.

Moghram was pulled over, and allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, and the odor of ingested alcohol. After performing poorly on field testing and failing a PBT, he submitted to a Datamaster test, showing his blood-alcohol level at .145 percent.

Moghram was taken into custody and charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
