Cedar Rapids Police investigate Tuesday shooting that took the life of a 15 year old girl

Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a shooting incident Tuesday morning that took the life of a 15-year-old girl.

A release from the city says that the Joint Communications Center got a call at 6:19am on report of a single vehicle accident at the Hawthorne Hills Apartment Complex in the 2200 block of C Street Southwest.

Arriving officers discovered a vehicle with extensive damage and a 15-year-old female deceased in the driver’s seat. The juvenile had what appeared to be a gunshot wound or wounds.

Cause of death is pending after an autopsy scheduled with the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Preliminary investigation into the incident is leading authorities to believe this was a targeted incident.

No arrests have been made, and the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
