A Cedar Rapids man who eluded police during a chase early Monday was arrested Wednesday.

30-year-old Bruce Williams of Old Marion Road was reportedly heading northbound on Highway 380 near the 10 mile marker just before 12:30 am and was stopped for speeding. When a deputy approached Williams’ vehicle, he allegedly sped off at a high rate of speed.

The man failed to stop after given visual and audible warnings from the patrol vehicle, and increased his speed to at least 25 miles an hour above the posted speed limit. Williams is also accused of passing vehicles on the shoulder and running red lights before deputies lost sight of the vehicle.

Records show Williams was booked at the Johnson County Jail at 12:49 am Wednesday. He’s been charged with Eluding, Unsafe Passing, Speeding 25 or miles above the speed limit, and Driving While Suspended. If convicted, Williams could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.

He was released from the jail at 2:45 am.
