A Johnson County Jail inmate with a history of biting police officers now faces charges that he bit a jail staff member.
The alleged incident occurred just after 11:30 Sunday night. Arrest records indicate 22-year-old Anthony Davis of North Towne Court in Cedar Rapids was being escorted to a holding cell after breaking jail rules. As he was being moved, Davis allegedly fought with deputies, biting one on the hand causing pain and redness. He also allegedly spit at staff, threatened further assaults, and attempted to swing at deputies from a restraint chair.
Davis is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of three years in prison.
Davis was arrested on outstanding warrants in May after police found him near the intersection of Linn and Burlington Streets. He allegedly fought with the officers who took him into custody, biting two of them and stealing one’s Taser before being pepper-sprayed and restrained.
Davis suffered minor injuries during the altercation and was taken to a local hospital. On the way, he allegedly spit on a paramedic, then reportedly head-butted a nurse after he arrived at the ER.
Davis was then taken to the Johnson County Jail, where he allegedly assaulted staff one day after being booked.
Davis faces a multitude of charges for the May incidents. If convicted on those charges, Davis faces up to fifteen years in prison.
