State auditor Rob Sand has long been rumored to be a candidate for Iowa Governor in 2022. Sand joined the KCJJ morning show Thursday to promote his 99-county, 100-county seat tour of Iowa. Among the topics discussed were when he might make a decision on a possible gubernatorial run. Sand said he and his wife have been discussing the decision. He told KCJJ, “It could be that tomorrow I make a decision one way or another. It could be that a few months from now I’ll make a decision one way or another.”

The 2010 University of Iowa Law School graduate said his impending decision on whether or not to run against Republican Kim Reynolds is different from his decision to run for Iowa Auditor in 2018. Sands told KCJJ, “It’s a strange process. It’s not one I’ve ever been through before other than deciding to run for state auditor, but that just was a different thing. I was in a different place. Our kids were in a different place. And this decision is just a lot weightier.”

Sand held an open forum Thursday night at College Green Park in Iowa City.
