Iowa City Police say a man who was arrested for public intoxication pulled his pants down as he was being loaded into a squad car.
26-year-old Sheldon Sidney, who has an Illinois driver’s license but lists his address as an apartment on Westwinds Drive, was arrested just after 1:15am on July 3rd near the corner of East Benton and Capitol Streets. Iowa City Police had responded to that location for a reported fight in progress.
Arriving officers saw Sidney attempting to walk away. Police say he showed multiple signs of intoxication and was wearing a bar wristband. At one point, he allegedly threw a key in the direction of the investigating officer. That’s when he was arrested for Public Intoxication.
Police say Sidney began to take off his pants as officers tried to load him into the back of a squad car. There is no indication of why Sidney chose to disrobe.
An initial court appearance is set for July 29th.
