A man who once led police on a car chase through Johnson and Iowa counties was arrested after a foot chase through Iowa City Thursday afternoon.
Iowa City Police say they noticed 28-year-old Robert Julin, who lists his address as Shelter House, at 3:15pm near the corner of Dodge and Burlington Streets. An officer knew Julin had an arrest warrant out of Iowa County and attempted to speak with him, but he allegedly turned and ran away. He was caught after a brief foot chase.
Police say Julin tried to remove a clear plastic baggie containing what is believed to be methamphetamine from his pocket. He later told police he forgot he had it on his person.
Julin is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
Last year Julin pleaded guilty to charges that he stole a car from the 300 block of South Clinton Street and led police on a chase along Interstate 80 through Johnson and Iowa counties. Online records show he failed to make scheduled payments, and a warrant was issued for his arrest in February.
