A new interactive art display opens this weekend on the Ped Mall.

According to the Iowa City Downtown District, The Loop will make its United States debut Friday morning. The exhibit has travelled the world over the last five years, starting in Montreal in 2016.

The inspiration for The Loop is a 19th century toy call a zoetrope, which produces the illusion of motion by displaying a series of drawings or photographs in progressive phases. The Loop takes that concept and creates 12 animated fairy-tale loops using visuals that celebrate literature. In order to activate the cylinders, visitors must pump the lever to get the cylinder to spin. Once the cylinder is spinning, it will light up and play musical movies, where the speed of images and music is based on how fast the lever is moved.

The Loop will officially launch at 10am Friday on the Ped Mall. For more information, go to downtowniowacity.com.
