A transient who attacked a woman he calls his “future wife” and took her purse is back behind bars after allegedly violating his probation.

57-year-old Thomas King was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 10:45 Wednesday night. Iowa City Police say that on the night of December 12th, 2018, King threw a woman to the ground outside 817 South Clinton Street and stole her purse. He later told police he was wrestling with the woman because she wanted to leave and he didn’t want her to go. But he claimed he never hit her. The two had been living together for four months, and King referred to the woman as his “future wife”.

King eventually pleaded guilty to a felony Domestic Abuse Assault charge, as he has previous domestic abuse convictions. He was given a two-year suspended sentence.

King was wanted by police after skipping a July 2nd probation revocation hearing. Online records show his probation was in question after he failed to pay court costs.
