A Baton Rouge Louisiana man has been charged with felony Criminal Mischief after allegedly causing thousands of dollars in damage to Iowa City apartments.
According to the arrest reports, 23-year-old Orlando Johnson was inside a third-floor apartment on the 900 block of Benton Drive the afternoon of June 12th. He reportedly stuffed a resident’s shirts into each drain in the apartment and turned the water on.
Johnson is also accused of throwing bleach on the apartment’s carpet, and spreading salsa and barbeque sauce on the walls. He left the apartment, and allegedly texted the victim. The text said “I left something for u at the house to u gonna love it.”
The running water not only damaged the resident’s apartment, but those on the two floors immediately below. Total estimated damage caused by Johnson’s reported actions was over $10,000.
A warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest, and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning. He’s been charged with 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
An arraignment will be scheduled for Johnson at a later date.
